TDPassengers on the Lagos–London Gatwick service operated by Air Peace have once again been left stranded after the airline cancelled Friday’s scheduled flight.

The cancellation marked the second disruption in just over a week on the popular international route.

Friday’s Cancellation

According to a press statement issued by the airline, the latest disruption occurred after passengers had already boarded.

A routine post-boarding technical check revealed a minor fault on the aircraft, prompting Air Peace to withdraw the plane from service in line with global safety standards.

Passengers were safely disembarked, and the airline assured that their safety and wellbeing remain the top priority.

A replacement aircraft was dispatched from London, with the rescheduled departure set for Saturday morning.

Last Week’s Incident

This comes barely a week after another Lagos–London flight was cancelled under similar circumstances.

In that case, passengers were also delayed overnight, sparking complaints about the reliability of the service.

Travelers expressed frustration that repeated cancellations are undermining confidence in Nigeria’s flagship carrier on the international stage.

Many had chosen Air Peace for its competitive fares and the pride of flying a Nigerian airline.

However, the disruptions have left them questioning its operational consistency.

Passenger Reactions and Air Peace Response

Several passengers voiced their disappointment:

  • Some lamented the financial and emotional toll of repeated delays, especially for those with urgent business or family commitments in London.
  • Others acknowledged the importance of safety but urged the airline to improve its maintenance and contingency planning to avoid last-minute cancellations.

Air Peace management expressed regret over the inconvenience.

It noted that affected passengers were provided with hotel accommodation, meals, and support services.

The airline thanked travelers for their patience and reiterated its commitment to delivering safe, reliable service at all times.

The statement emphasized: “While we understand the inconvenience this situation may have caused, taking swift preventive action was the responsible and necessary decision.”

Broader Concerns

The repeated cancellations highlight the challenges facing Nigerian airlines in sustaining international operations.

Industry analysts warn that frequent disruptions could erode passenger trust.

It can also hinder Air Peace’s ambition to establish itself as a major player on the Lagos–London corridor.

For many passengers, the issue is no longer about safety alone but about predictability and reliability—qualities essential for international travel.

While Air Peace insists that safety will always come first, passengers are demanding greater consistency.

With two cancellations in just over a week, the airline faces mounting pressure to reassure travelers that its Lagos–London service can meet global standards without compromising reliability.

Obasanjo Boards Air Peace to London

Meanwhile, Air Peace considered it a privilege to welcome former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, on board its flight.

He was received by Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, who accompanied him to the aircraft departing for London, Gatwick.

Speaking on the rare privilege, Air Peace stated: “At Air Peace, we remain committed to delivering safe and world-class air travel experiences while proudly connecting people, cultures, and destinations across Nigeria and beyond.”
