TDThe Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that it will formally inaugurate its newly constituted Selection Committee today, Monday, May 25, 2026, at the party’s National Secretariat.
This was contained in a press release signed by Osa Director Esq., National Publicity Secretary.
The 21-member committee was chaired by the NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe.
It was empaneled last week as part of the party’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and credible candidate selection.
Mandate of the Committee
The Selection Committee is tasked with reviewing, scrutinizing, and considering reports and recommendations.
The reports and recommendations come from both the National Screening Committee and the State Houses of Assembly Screening Committees.
It will take final decisions on the screening outcomes of all aspirants for governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly positions.
Party officials explained that the initiative is designed to ensure that the NDC presents the most formidable and credible candidates for every elective position in the upcoming general elections.
Leadership Role
The inauguration will be performed at 4:00 pm by the NDC National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, who has been instrumental in driving reforms within the party.
The Selection Committee is described as a “brainchild” of Dickson, developed in collaboration with the National Working Committee (NWC).
According to the party, the committee represents a crucial step in its preparations for the general elections.
It reinforced its pledge to uphold fairness and accountability in candidate selection.
Official Statement
The NDC emphasized that the inauguration reflects its determination to entrench internal democracy and strengthen public confidence in its processes.
The statement noted: “The Selection Committee is a vital mechanism to ensure that the NDC fields the strongest candidates across all positions.
“It is part of our broader effort to deepen transparency and credibility in our internal processes.”
This development marks another milestone in the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, as the party positions itself to compete vigorously across Nigeria’s political landscape.
NDC Disowns John Paul Anih
In another development, the NDC has issued a disclaimer against John Paul Anih, warning the public that he is neither the Enugu State Chairman of the party nor a representative of the NDC in any capacity.
According to the National Working Committee (NWC), Anih impersonated the authentic state chairman, Engr. Ibuchukwu Obeta.
He even conducted a “kangaroo congress” to install himself.
He allegedly forged and sold fake NDC Expression of Interest forms and set up a fraudulent screening committee in Enugu to extort unsuspecting politicians.
The NDC clarified that the official three-man screening committee for Enugu State comprises:
- Hon. Sylvester O. Nwankwo – Chairman
- Barr. Ifeanyi Emmanuel Agbom – Secretary
- Ngene Helen Funmilola – Member
The party stressed that any dealings with Anih are at the individual’s own risk, reiterating that he is a fraud and does not represent the NDC.
