THIS DAWN — The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public statement addressing concerns over the recent recall of Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour in France.

The recall, initiated by French health authorities, was due to the presence of undeclared allergens—specifically milk and eggs.

These, they say, pose serious health risks to individuals with allergies or intolerances.

In its official release, NAFDAC emphasized that the recalled product does not originate from Nigeria and is not registered for sale in the Nigerian market.

The agency assured Nigerians that the affected noodles are not part of the approved inventory of Indomie or any other noodle brands currently sold within the country.

Importation of Indomie Noodles Prohibited

NAFDAC reiterated that instant noodles are listed on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List.

This means that the importation of such products into Nigeria is unlawful, significantly reducing the likelihood of the recalled variant entering the domestic market.

“The recalled Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour is not a NAFDAC-registered product,” the statement read.

“All Indomie instant noodles and other noodle brands approved for sale in Nigeria are locally manufactured and have passed stringent regulatory checks,” it added.

To further safeguard public health, NAFDAC disclosed that it has intensified surveillance across the country.

Zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to remain vigilant.

They are, thereby, authorised to remove any unregistered or suspicious noodle products from circulation.

The Ports Inspection Directorate has also been placed on high alert to prevent any attempt to import the implicated product into Nigeria.

Assurance of Indomie Noodles Quality

NAFDAC reassured consumers that all noodle products registered by the agency undergo rigorous evaluation.

Such evaluations include compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

These checks are designed to ensure that only safe, high-quality food items reach Nigerian shelves.

“The safety of consumers is our top priority,” said Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of NAFDAC.

“We want to assure Nigerians that the noodles available in our markets are safe and meet all regulatory requirements.,” Adeyeye added.

NAFDAC advised consumers to remain vigilant and avoid purchasing unregistered food products.

The agency encouraged the public to report any suspected sale or distribution of the recalled Indomie variant to its offices nationwide.

Additionally, individuals who experience adverse reactions from any food product are urged to submit reports through NAFDAC’s e-reporting platforms or call the toll-free line 0800-162-3322.

Social Media Reactions

The recall in France had sparked concern among Nigerian consumers, especially given the popularity of Indomie noodles across the country.

Social media platforms were flooded with questions and speculation, prompting NAFDAC’s swift response to clarify the situation and prevent panic.

Many Nigerians expressed relief following the agency’s statement.

However, others called for stricter enforcement against the importation of unregistered food items.

NAFDAC said its proactive response to the Indomie recall in France underscores its commitment to public health and regulatory transparency.

By clarifying that the affected product is not sold in Nigeria and activating nationwide surveillance, the agency has moved quickly to reassure citizens and prevent misinformation.

As the festive season approaches, NAFDAC urges Nigerians to prioritize food safety and remain alert to product authenticity.

With strengthened oversight and public cooperation, the agency believes that Nigeria can maintain a safe and trusted food supply chain.
