TDRecent claims that “aggrieved youths” burned down the home of African Democratic Congress (ADC) factional leader Nafiu Bala in Gombe have been found wanting.

The Gombe State Police Command has officially debunked the viral reports, confirming that no such incident occurred.

Verdict: ❌ False / Misinformation

Claims that “aggrieved youths” burned down the home of ADC factional leader Nafiu Bala are not supported by verified evidence and have been officially debunked by authorities.

What Happened

  • Rumor Spread: Social media posts, including fire footage, circulated on April 30–May 1, 2026, alleging that Nafiu Bala’s residence in Gombe was attacked and set ablaze.
  • Police Response: The Gombe State Police Command issued multiple statements categorically rejecting the reports.
  • Official Confirmation: Police spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi stated that no such incident was recorded anywhere in Gombe State.

Police Statements

  • Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso:
    • Urged the public to disregard the misinformation.
    • Reassured residents that the Command remains committed to maintaining peace and security across Gombe State.
  • DSP Buhari Abdullahi (Police PRO):
    • Described the viral claims as “false information.”
    • Warned against spreading unverified news that could cause unnecessary tension.

Media Coverage

  • Multiple media outlets all reported that the alleged arson was fabricated.
  • Family sources also confirmed that Bala’s home was safe and secure.

Why This Matters

  • Misinformation Risk: False reports of violence can inflame political tensions, especially amid ADC’s ongoing leadership crisis.
  • Judicial Context: The Supreme Court recently vacated the status quo ante bellum order and directed both ADC factions (David Mark and Nafiu Bala) back to the Federal High Court for resolution.
  • Security Assurance: Authorities emphasize that Gombe remains calm and secure, and no attack on Bala’s residence has taken place.

Fact Check Verdict

  • Claim: “Aggrieved youths burned down Nafiu Bala’s home.”
  • Verdict: False. Police and credible media confirm no such incident occurred.

The reports of Nafiu Bala’s house being burned are misinformation.

His residence in Gombe is intact, and the police have urged Nigerians to disregard the false claims and avoid spreading unverified news.

Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed the leadership of the ADC under former Senate President David Mark, setting aside the controversial status quo ante bellum order previously issued by the Court of Appeal.

In a unanimous decision delivered on April 30, 2026, the apex court ruled that the directive to maintain status quo ante bellum was a preservatory order “wrongly made in this case.”

The judgment restores the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC) to full control of the party while the substantive matter continues at the Federal High Court.
