Noticias de This DawnWashington-Abuja — A Washington lobbying firm says it plans to raise the reaction of Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, to an Atiku Abubakar court ruling with the Trump administration and Congress.

Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., alleges that the Nigerian government is interfering in the 2027 election, citing Keyamo’s post celebrating the decision.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday invalidated the leadership of the African Democratic Congress led by former Senate President David Mark.

Justice Peter Lifu also voided decisions made under that leadership, including the party primary that produced former Vice-President Atiku as its 2027 presidential candidate.

Lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., threatened to raise the reaction of Nigeria's Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, to an Atiku Abubakar court ruling with the Trump administration and Congress.
Lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., threatened to raise the reaction of Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, to an Atiku Abubakar court ruling with the Trump administration and Congress.

Lobbying Firm Targets Post by Keyamo

The firm’s statement followed Keyamo’s post on X, where the minister declared that justice may be slow but is “always SURE.”

Keyamo argued that the Mark-led caretaker committee had taken control of the ADC without prior approval from a mini national convention or its executive committee.

He also rejected claims that the ruling endangered democracy, saying the ADC remained active and had original leaders beyond the Mark faction.

The lobbying firm said it would present Keyamo’s post to members of the Trump administration and Congress.

It cited what it said was a senior congressional staffer’s description of the minister’s post as an “open display of election interference.”

That description is the firm’s account of a staffer’s assessment, not a formal finding by Congress or a court.

The firm further alleged that Tinubu’s officials arranged to eliminate the president’s principal rival before the next election.

The court judgment, however, dealt with the legality of ADC leadership and party decisions, and does not establish that the government arranged the case.

The firm also suggested the ruling followed a strong Atiku rally, but it provided no publicly verified evidence linking the rally to the judgment.

It warned that the dispute could contribute to political unrest, with consequences for United States interests and regional stability.

The organization said it would engage senior Trump administration officials and both Republican and Democratic lawmakers about the controversy.

Its post also connected the case to congressional scrutiny of a Nigeria-related mining agreement, a separate issue from the ADC court dispute.

The public statement does not establish that U.S. officials or lawmakers have accepted the firm’s allegations or agreed to take action.

Court Ruling Disrupts ADC Election Plans

Lifu’s decision that attracted the reaction of Keyamo followed a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former ADC deputy national chairman, challenging the party’s caretaker leadership.

Gombe questioned how Mark and other committee members assumed control, arguing that the process violated party rules and relevant legal requirements.

The court declared the caretaker committee illegal and invalidated actions it had taken, including the primary that selected Atiku.

The decision also reportedly affects other candidates presented by the Mark-led leadership, broadening the consequences beyond the presidential nomination.

The court directed the Independent National Electoral Commission not to recognise decisions taken at the ADC’s July 2025 national executive meeting.

The ruling therefore places the party’s leadership, candidate list, and preparations for the 2027 polls under legal uncertainty.

The practical effect will depend on the exact court orders, any interim relief, and the outcome of appeals.

Atiku Disagrees with Keyamo, Rejects Judgment

Atiku rejected the judgment as politically timed and said he would challenge it before the Court of Appeal.

His campaign said it would seek a stay of execution while pursuing an appeal, leaving the legal dispute unresolved.

The ADC has also rejected the ruling and said it would pursue available legal processes to challenge the decision.

The party cited an earlier Federal High Court judgment delivered by Justice Musa Liman on July 2, 2026.

That earlier case dismissed a challenge to the Mark-led leadership, with the court holding that the leadership had emerged lawfully, according to reports.

The ADC argues that the earlier judgment conflicts with Lifu’s decision, a legal dispute that may require clarification by appellate courts.

The competing judgments have become central to the party’s case against the latest ruling and its effects on nominations.

Atiku has described the ruling as an attempt to weaken his campaign, while Gombe’s side has welcomed the decision.

Neither political side’s position proves that the Tinubu government orchestrated the case or influenced the judge.

Allegations and U.S. Response Remain Unconfirmed

Von Batten-Montague-York frames the controversy as an election integrity issue and warns it could damage Tinubu politically.

It predicted that the court decision and the response of Keyamo could become a turning point in the president’s political fortunes.

That language signals the firm’s intent to draw attention in Washington, but does not confirm an official U.S. response.

The firm describes itself as an all-Republican policy advisory and lobbying organization based in Washington, D.C.

Its stated plan to contact the Trump administration and Congress reflects its own advocacy, rather than a government investigation.

The dispute may attract U.S. attention because the firm is raising election integrity and possible instability in a major African country.

However, publicly available information does not show that the White House, State Department, or Congress has opened a formal review.

Keyamo’s position as aviation minister is central to the firm’s criticism because his portfolio does not oversee elections.

The firm says that makes his celebratory response troubling, while supporters of the judgment may see it as political commentary.

Keyamo presented the ruling as a legal consequence of party procedures, rather than an electoral intervention by the government.

His post criticised the Mark-led leadership and argued that legal disputes should be resolved by evidence and procedure.

It did not, by itself, establish that Tinubu or his government directed the court or arranged the lawsuit.

Future Outlook on Keyamo Verses Von Batten

The court’s written reasoning and any appellate decision will determine whether the ruling stands and how it affects ADC candidates.

For now, the dispute involves a party leadership contest, a presidential nomination challenge, and intensifying political criticism.

The lobbying firm’s planned outreach adds international attention, while the central legal questions remain before Nigerian courts.

Those questions include whether the Mark-led committee was properly constituted and whether its decisions remain valid after competing judgments.

Until appeals clarify the legal position, Atiku’s nomination remains challenged and the ADC’s election preparations remain uncertain.

The firm says it will take the controversy to Washington, while Keyamo continues to defend his public reaction to the ruling.
