TDThe National leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced a downward review of its nomination fees for the 2027 general elections following reports that no aspirant initially purchased the party’s forms.
In a statement issued by the party’s national headquarters, the decision was attributed to “passionate appeals by well-meaning members” who urged the leadership to make the process more inclusive and financially accessible.
Under the revised structure, the presidential nomination form has been reduced to ₦90 million.
Meanwhile, governorship aspirants will now pay ₦30 million.
Senate hopefuls are to pay ₦10 million, House of Representatives aspirants ₦5 million, and State House of Assembly candidates ₦2 million.
Before the review, the fees were significantly higher.
The presidential form reportedly stood at ₦100 million and governorship at ₦50 million.
Senate went for ₦20 million, House of Representatives at ₦10 million, and State Assembly at ₦5 million.
The latest adjustment represents reductions across all categories.
The presidential fee saw a ₦10 million cut, while governorship fees dropped by ₦20 million, marking the most significant reduction.
Senate and House of Representatives forms were reduced by ₦10 million and ₦5 million respectively, while State Assembly fees were lowered by ₦3 million.
In addition, the party maintained its incentive policy, granting a 25 percent discount to youths, women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs), a move aimed at broadening participation among underrepresented groups.
Political observers note that the fee reduction may be a strategic attempt by the ADC to attract more aspirants and remain competitive with larger parties ahead of the cycle.
Party officials expressed optimism that the revised pricing will stimulate interest and encourage wider participation in its primaries.
The ADC has yet to announce a new deadline for the sale of nomination forms, but insiders say further adjustments may be considered depending on the response from prospective candidates.
