Chief Dozie Nwankwo (Onye Ndozi), the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Anambra Central Senatorial District, has assured communities across the district of at least one major development project or programme annually through the national budget if elected to the Senate in the 2027 general elections.
Nwankwo gave the assurance during a strategic meeting with key stakeholders from Anambra Central Senatorial District at his campaign headquarters in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area.
He said his approach to electioneering would focus on realistic, achievable development commitments rather than what he described as unfulfilled promises routinely made by politicians during election campaigns.
According to him, political representation should be measured by tangible results and the ability to attract government projects and programmes to the communities being represented.
Plans To Leverage National Assembly Relationships
The APGA candidate explained that his legislative strategy would involve leveraging existing relationships and building stronger alliances with fellow lawmakers to facilitate the approval and execution of constituency projects.
He expressed confidence that the relationships he had cultivated over the years would help him secure the necessary legislative support to attract development projects to Anambra Central.
Nwankwo said his intention was to ensure that communities, organised groups and professional associations had a direct channel through which they could communicate their development needs to his office.
He explained that their requests would form a structured charter of demands to be presented and pursued at the National Assembly.
Constituencies To Submit Development Priorities
The senatorial candidate urged representatives of communities and interest groups to identify and document their most pressing needs in an organised manner.
He stressed that the proposed constituency development agenda would accommodate people across different social categories, irrespective of gender, age, educational background or professional affiliation.
According to him, his constituency office would remain open daily to receive proposals, complaints and development requests from residents.
Nwankwo, popularly known as Onyendozi, meaning a noble reformer or builder, said he was committed to ensuring that every segment of the senatorial district enjoyed a sense of belonging under his proposed representation.
The stakeholder meeting was led by Professor Onyi Oguno, a university academic.
Highlights Previous Empowerment Initiatives
Recalling his previous interventions in the district, Nwankwo said he had supported several humanitarian and empowerment initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.
He listed annual free medical outreaches, youth and women empowerment programmes, scholarship schemes and the distribution of various empowerment materials among his previous interventions.
These, he said, included commuter buses, commercial motorcycles, cars, sewing machines, barbing equipment and hairdressing kits.
He maintained that such interventions had become regular features of his engagement with communities and expressed his intention to sustain and expand them.
Calls For Grassroots Mobilisation
Nwankwo urged the stakeholders to take his campaign message to their respective communities and social networks, including age grades, churches, schools, professional associations, social organisations and gender-based groups.
He encouraged them to sensitise voters to examine the credibility, practicality and believability of candidates’ campaign promises rather than being swayed by unrealistic political rhetoric.
He also appealed to stakeholders to mobilise voters across the seven local government areas of Anambra Central Senatorial District to support his candidacy in the 2027 elections.
According to him, electoral support would provide the opportunity to sustain and expand the development and empowerment initiatives he said he had previously undertaken.
New Poverty Alleviation Programme In The Pipeline
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the APGA candidate was planning another major poverty alleviation programme for 2026, although details of the proposed initiative were not immediately available.
The proposed intervention is expected to form part of his continuing engagement with residents ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As political activities gather momentum, Nwankwo’s promise of an annual major project for every community places constituency development and equitable distribution of federal projects at the centre of his campaign message.
Whether the proposed commitments can be translated into approved and completed national budget projects will ultimately depend on legislative processes, budgetary allocations, executive implementation and effective constituency oversight.
