TDThe Village Boys Movement (VBM), a grassroots coalition of young Nigerians, has issued a strong declaration of support for former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, amid ongoing consultations about his political future.
In a press statement signed by Maazi Tochukwu Ezeoke, popularly known as the Village Headmaster, the movement described Obi as “the undisputed champion of the New Nigeria project”.
Maazi Ezeoke pledged to stand firmly with him through every political decision and battle ahead.
VBM’s Message of Loyalty
The statement emphasized that the movement’s support for Obi is total and irreversible:
“We are for Peter Obi. Where he goes, we go. What he decides, we stand by. His vision is our vision. His fight is our fight.”
VBM highlighted Obi’s integrity, competence, and commitment to justice and prudent governance as the reasons for their unwavering loyalty.
The group contrasted Obi’s leadership style with what it described as a political landscape “often defined by deceit and desperation”.
It insisted that Obi represents hope and the possibility of a Nigeria that works for all citizens, especially those from overlooked rural communities.
Grassroots Mobilization
The Village Boys Movement positions itself as a resilient and loyal grassroots force, representing young Nigerians from villages across the country.
The group stressed that their support is not seasonal or opportunistic, but rooted in long-term commitment to national transformation.
“We followed him yesterday. We stand with him today.
“We will march with him tomorrow and beyond, until Nigeria is rescued, rebuilt, and repositioned as the giant that Africa and the world have long awaited,” the statement read.
Context of Political Realignment
The declaration comes at a time of heightened political activity, with reports that Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are preparing to exit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) next week.
Both men are expected to defect to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and contest the 2027 presidential election on a joint ticket.
Analysts suggest that such a coalition could reshape Nigeria’s opposition politics, combining Obi’s strong appeal in the South-East and South-South with Kwankwaso’s entrenched influence in Kano and the wider North.
The VBM’s statement signals that Obi’s grassroots base remains intact and mobilized, ready to follow him into any new political alignment.
Declaration to Obi
In its closing remarks, the movement directly addressed Obi:
“To Peter Obi: Sir, the Village Boys are locked in with you. Lead the way.
“We are right behind you, every step, every battle, every victory.
“Nigeria will rise. The Village Boys Movement is ready.”
The VBM’s declaration underscores the importance of grassroots mobilization in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
As Obi consults widely and prepares for possible realignment, the assurance of unwavering support from movements like VBM strengthens his position and signals continuity of his youth-driven momentum.
With defections and alliances reshaping the opposition ahead of 2027, the role of grassroots groups will be critical in determining how new political platforms translate into electoral strength.
In conclusion, the Village Boys Movement has declared total solidarity with Peter Obi, pledging to follow him wherever he goes politically.
Their statement comes amid reports of Obi’s imminent defection to the NDC alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso.
It signals that his grassroots base remains intact, mobilized, and committed to his vision of a “New Nigeria.”
