TDAspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Barr. Obunike Ohaegbu, has appealed to party members and supporters to remain calm following the Federal High Court’s decision in Lokoja concerning the registration of the party.
In a public statement addressed to residents of the federal constituency, his supporters, friends and members of the NDC, Ohaegbu described judicial pronouncements as a vital pillar of Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and urged party faithful to respect the court while allowing the legal process to take its course.
Believes Decision Will Be Overturned
The NDC aspirant expressed confidence in the party’s legal team.
He said he believes appropriate legal steps would be taken to challenge the ruling.
According to him, he is optimistic that the judgment delivered by the Lokoja Division of the Federal High Court would either be set aside through the appropriate legal process or overturned on appeal.
Says NDC Represents Nigerians Seeking an Alternative
Ohaegbu argued that despite being a relatively new political party, the NDC has demonstrated that many Nigerians are searching for a credible alternative political platform.
He maintained that what he described as a temporary legal setback would not extinguish the aspirations of Nigerians who have embraced the party.
He added that its leaders and legal representatives are working to ensure the party remains a viable political option.
Reassures Constituents of Election Bid
Addressing his supporters, Ohaegbu said the mandate he received during the NDC primaries held on May 29, 2026, would not be in vain.
He expressed confidence that he would eventually contest the election as the NDC candidate and that the party would appear on the ballot.
He described the current legal challenge as “a little and insignificant setback” in a broader democratic journey.
Calls for Unity and Patience
The aspirant urged party members to remain united, disciplined and hopeful while awaiting the outcome of further legal proceedings.
He concluded by praying for God’s blessings upon the people of the Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, the Nigeria Democratic Congress, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
