TDFresh reports indicate that operatives of the Iru Ekun security outfit, associated with Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, were reportedly ambushed by suspected cross-border bandits during an operation inside the Old Oyo National Park in Oyo State.
According to multiple reports, the team had entered the forest to track suspected kidnappers and other armed criminal groups believed to be operating within the expansive reserve.
Sources said the operatives reportedly used surveillance drones to identify suspected criminal hideouts before advancing into the area.
Several Operatives Reportedly Injured
The operation reportedly turned violent after heavily armed attackers allegedly opened fire on the advancing team, triggering a fierce gun battle inside the forest.
Initial reports indicate that several members of the Iru Ekun team sustained injuries during the exchange.
However, the exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed.
