THIS DAWN — Public corporate filings in the United Kingdom show that organisations associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were, at various times, linked to three private companies:
  1. Radio Biafra Ltd.
  2. IPOB Worldwide Community Interest Company (CIC), and,
  3. IPOB Worldwide Limited

These entities, each registered separately with Companies House, provided formal structures for broadcasting, diaspora mobilisation, and administrative activity.

Radio Biafra Ltd, in particular, was associated with the media arm through which IPOB disseminated its messages.

According to sources—including individuals such as Justice Okoro, whose comments circulated online—these companies represented a centralised framework through which IPOB’s international fundraising and financial flows were managed.

Some critics allege that supporters’ donations formed the main revenue stream, and that members were unaware that IPOB’s UK entities operated as private limited liability companies.

These allegations conform to verified findings from UK authorities.

Companies House records confirm that IPOB Worldwide Limited, incorporated in 2014, was compulsorily dissolved in 2022.

A new IPOB-related company was later registered in 2023, reportedly by Kanu’s wife, through the company’s secretary, Sofia Kalu.

It is not clear if Sofia Kalu is in any way related to Nnamdi Kanu.

Meanwhile, the legal or operational links of the new company to earlier entities remain a subject of public debate.

Overall, the use of private companies gave IPOB a legal presence in the UK.

However, the purpose, transparency, and management of these entities continue to generate controversy among supporters and critics alike.

See below brief profiles of the three companies — IPOB Worldwide Limited, IPOB Worldwide Community Interest Company (CIC), and, Radio Biafra Ltd:

About Nnamdi Kanu

Full Name: Nwannekaenyi Nnamdi Okwu Kanu

Age and Date of Birth:

  • Born 25 September 1967.
  • As of 2025, he is 58 years old.

Origin / Background

  • He is from Afara-Ukwu, in Umuahia North LGA, Abia State, Nigeria.

  • He is the son of:

    • HRH Eze Israel Okwu Kanu (the late traditional ruler of Afara-Ukwu)

    • Ugoeze Nnenne Kanu (also deceased)

Education

  • Attended Library Avenue Primary School, Umuahia.
  • Attended Government College Umuahia (though he has stated he did not complete his time there).
  • Later reportedly studied at the University of Nigeria (briefly) and then in the United Kingdom, at an unconfirmed UK institution (details inconsistent in public sources).

Occupation Before Radio Biafra

Before emerging as the director of Radio Biafra and IPOB leader, public information indicates:

  • He was involved with Biafra advocacy groups in the UK, including:

    • The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) faction in the UK.

  • He worked in various roles while living in the UK.

    • Public interviews suggest he did media-related and activist work, particularly in diaspora nationalist networks.

  • He later became associated with Radio Biafra London, which existed before his leadership and was revived under him around 2009–2012.

Marriage & Children

  • Married to Uchechi Okwu Kanu, a very private figure.
  • Public sources confirm at least one child — a son, born while Kanu was in the UK.
  • No verified public record of additional children.

Role in Radio Biafra

  • Became the director of Radio Biafra London, turning it into a platform for Biafra-focused political broadcasts and diaspora mobilization.

Net Worth

There is no credible, verifiable public estimate of his net worth.

Key points:

  • He has never publicly declared assets.

  • Figures circulating online (from blogs or forums) are speculative and not based on any financial disclosure.

  • His UK-registered company Radio Biafra Ltd was officially listed as dormant, with only £2 in assets in filings — meaning there was no declared commercial activity through that entity.

Because of this, any quoted net-worth figure would be unreliable.

Documents below show the cessation details and termination details of Nnamdi Kanu from IPOB Worldwide Community Interest Company (CIC):

About Sofia Kalu

Sofia Kalu (often reported as “Sofia Kanu”) appears in UK public corporate records as a UK‑resident officer associated with entities linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

On paper, she holds governance roles within a Community Interest Company (CIC) and has been connected to related UK companies.

Public filings provide limited biographical detail beyond role, dates, and correspondence address.

Public registry positions

  • CIC roles:
    • Secretary: Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Worldwide CIC (10434287), appointed 28 May 2021.
    • Director: Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Worldwide CIC, appointed 30 December 2021.
  • Identifiers:
    • Date of birth: May 1970 (month/year format as per Companies House).
    • Correspondence address: Trinity House, C/O Home of Justice Community, Grove Close, Rusholme, Manchester, M16 5AA, England.
    • Nationality / residence: Often listed as South African; country of residence United Kingdom (as shown on certain filings).

    • PSC context: Filings reflect ongoing PSC changes within the CIC; verify current PSC register for her status.
  • IPOB Worldwide Limited (13127887):
    • Officer link: Appears on officer records; review AP01/CS01 filings to confirm current role and dates.
  • Radio Biafra Ltd (08635030):
    • Officer link: Listed as Secretary from 7 November 2021; company dissolved 14 October 2025.

Unknowns and caveats

  • Leadership claims: Media narratives about her “replacing” Nnamdi Kanu are contested; filings do not prove movement leadership.
  • Operational role: No verified public evidence of day‑to‑day activism, funding control, or media operations.
  • Financial ties: Companies House does not disclose bank accounts, donors, or transactional detail.

Summary

It can be observed that the company that started as the private company that started as Radio Biafra Ltd. was later metamorphosed into a community-based “IPOB Worldwide Community Interest Company (CIC).

It gradually expanded into IPOB Worldwide Limited.

Although Nnamdi Kanu failed to disclose reason behind the metamorphosis, it seems the move is apparently to give it a global clout and ideology.

Nonetheless, the three companies are private entities belonging to Nnamdi Kanu.

Because of its clandestine nature, critics say Kanu was able to use it at will to manipulate his followers, who freely donated millions of Dollars for the Biafra cause.

It could be recalled that shortly after his arrest in 2017, IPOB members in the UK disclosed that a whopping 22 million Dollars were missing from the company’s bank account.

In the meantime, he is currently serving a life sentence imposed upon him by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
