THIS DAWN — Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to transforming the state’s aviation sector, describing modern infrastructure as key to unlocking economic growth, investment, and improved regional connectivity.
Speaking during the commissioning of a new Protocol Lounge at Chinụa Achebe International Airport, Umueri, the Governor said the facility is part of a phased upgrade designed to elevate airport operations and enhance passenger experience while positioning Anambra as an aviation hub in the South-East.
Soludo emphasized that the modernization of the state’s aviation assets aligns with his broader development agenda, which prioritizes job creation, capacity building, and improved access to local and international markets.
“By upgrading our airport infrastructure and delivering a world-class Protocol Lounge, we are not only improving passenger experience but also signaling to investors that Anambra is open for business,” Soludo said. “This is about jobs, growth, and sustainable development for our people.”
He added that effective partnerships with federal aviation agencies and international bodies remain crucial to ensuring that Anambra’s aviation projects meet global standards in safety, efficiency, and service delivery.
The newly unveiled Protocol Lounge will serve dignitaries, government delegations, and high-profile visitors, offering exclusive check-in services, secured waiting areas, executive seating, and enhanced security screening. The Governor noted that such facilities place Anambra on a competitive footing with major airports nationwide.
Commissioner for Transportation, Barr. Patricia Igwebuike, who was present at the event, said the upgraded airport infrastructure will stimulate commerce, tourism, and broader economic activity in Umueri and across the state.
Chinụa Achebe International Airport has been central to Anambra’s long-term aviation ambitions. The addition of the Protocol Lounge marks another step in the state’s ongoing efforts to align its airport operations with international aviation benchmarks.
