TDThe Nigerian Army has dismissed Lance Corporal Shaibu Suleman from active service after he was found guilty of involvement in armed robbery.
Military authorities confirmed that the soldier was discharged following disciplinary proceedings that established his participation in criminal activities inconsistent with the standards and code of conduct expected of members of the armed forces.
The dismissal reflects the Nigerian Army’s policy of maintaining strict discipline within its ranks and ensuring that personnel who violate the law face appropriate sanctions.
Sources within the military said the decision was taken under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.
Oluyede is widely described within military circles as a firm disciplinarian committed to professionalism and accountability.
Security analysts note that cases involving criminal conduct by military personnel are typically handled through internal military justice mechanisms.
This can lead to dismissal, court-martial, or prosecution depending on the severity of the offence.
The Nigerian Army has repeatedly emphasized that it operates a zero-tolerance policy toward criminal behaviour, particularly offences such as armed robbery, which undermine public trust in the military.
Observers say the latest dismissal underscores the army’s determination to enforce discipline and protect the integrity of the institution.
Military authorities have not yet released further details regarding whether the former soldier will face additional prosecution in civilian courts following his dismissal.
