THIS DAWN — Nigeria’s Super Eagles produced a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The win showcased the attacking brilliance and midfield dominance of the Nigerian side.
Early Goals Set the Tone
The scoring was opened in the 20th minute by Ademola Lookman, who struck with precision to give Nigeria an early advantage.
Victor Osimhen quickly doubled the lead, netting twice within a short span, including a goal just after halftime that cemented Nigeria’s control of the match.
The scoring was completed by Akor Adams, who blasted in his first-ever international goal, sealing a comprehensive win.
Standout Performances
Ademola Lookman’s influential display earned him the Man of the Match award.
Having contributed seven goals and assists over three games, Lookman’s form has been pivotal to Nigeria’s attacking success.

Despite a brief on-field clash with Osimhen, which drew mixed reactions from fans—some perceiving it as passion, others as attitude—Lookman dismissed any concerns post-match, praising his teammate for their combined effort.
Osimhen had gotten angry at teammate Lookman during the match, saying: “Hey hey, it’s a team game. Listen to me, bro.”
Lookman retorted: “Bro, you scored two goals, you got two.”
Osimhen was furious and walked straight to the locker room after the game.
Alex Iwobi orchestrated play from midfield with vision and composure, while Wilfred Ndidi provided defensive stability, helping secure a clean sheet.
The duo ensured Nigeria dominated both possession and tempo throughout the contest.
Group Stage Dominance
With this win, Nigeria tops Group C, having scored an impressive 12 goals across three matches.
The Super Eagles now prepare to face either Algeria or DR Congo in the quarterfinals, with the next clash scheduled for Saturday in Marrakesh.
The 4-0 triumph reinforces Nigeria’s status as one of AFCON 2025’s most formidable sides.
With attacking threats in Lookman, Osimhen, and Adams, coupled with a disciplined midfield and defense, the Super Eagles appear well-equipped for a deep run in the tournament.
