THIS DAWN — Nigerian comedian and social media personality AY, also known as Ayo Makun, has issued a scathing warning about the country’s deteriorating security situation, saying that “Nigeria is bleeding”.
AY made the declaration on X, formerly Twitter, regretting that “Nigeria is turning into a crime scene.”
In a post that has since gone viral, he lamented a series of violent and terrifying developments across the country.
Calling for urgent government action, AY’s post highlights a string of recent high-profile incidents:
- bandits allegedly storming churches to “kill and abduct” Christians;
- innocent schoolchildren being kidnapped; and,
- the killing of a Brigadier General.
AY wrote: “Nigeria is turning into a crime scene. Bandits storm churches to kill and abduct Christians.
“Children are kidnapped from schools. A Brigadier General is shot dead.
“Every day brings fresh chaos, yet the government remains silent.
“How did we get here? And must outsiders come to fix what our leaders refuse to confront?
“Which way Nigeria? We need safety, accountability and real action, not silence.”
A nation traumatized by violence
The comedian’s tone is both anguished and demanding.
By invoking attacks on religious institutions, he taps into deeply felt anxieties in communities already traumatized by violence.
His reference to the abduction of children from schools echoes a chilling pattern that has haunted Nigeria in recent years.
Also, the mention of a Brigadier General being shot dead underscores the fact that even senior military officials are not immune from the violence.

In his post, AY did not shy away from criticism: he called out government leaders for their inaction and apathy.
He questioned why, amid such bloodshed and insecurity, there appears to be no meaningful response from national authorities.
“It is no longer business as usual,” he warned, urging both the government and Nigerians to wake up to the perils threatening the fabric of the nation.
Lack of safety for vulnerable populations
Analysts say AY’s message may resonate widely because it mirrors the frustrations of ordinary Nigerians.
Many have grown increasingly outspoken about the inability of security forces to curb banditry, terrorism, and targeted attacks.
The comedian’s sharp but heartfelt intervention has reignited a broader conversation about national leadership, accountability, and the safety of vulnerable populations.
As his post continues to circulate, pressure may mount on federal and state authorities to address the issues AY raised.
With millions of followers across social media, his platform brings amplified public attention to a series of security failures that many believe can no longer be ignored.
Whether his call will translate into swift policy response remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, one thing is clear: AY has given voice to a growing cry for action in a nation under siege.
