THIS DAWN — The NNPC/Renaissance Joint Venture (JV) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria with a fresh donation of $300,000 to the National Hospital, Abuja, for the maintenance and sustainability of its Linear Accelerator (LINAC) Radiotherapy Machine.
The support is part of the JV’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
It has significantly transformed cancer care at one of the nation’s leading tertiary health institutions.
Initiated in 2019, the partnership has helped the National Hospital deliver world-class radiotherapy services, treating more than 2,000 cancer patients to date.
The impact of the intervention has been far-reaching, with therapy time reduced dramatically from 12 minutes to just 2 minutes per session.
This allows the hospital to serve more patients efficiently.
The programme has also cut treatment costs by 80%, easing the financial burden on families affected by cancer.
In addition, 712 indigent patients have received fully subsidised care, ensuring that quality treatment is not limited by economic circumstances.

Strengthening Nigeria’s health system
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muhammed Ali Pate, commended the NNPC/Renaissance JV for its sustained investment in critical medical infrastructure.
He noted that such partnerships are essential to strengthening Nigeria’s health system, expanding access to affordable cancer treatment, and reducing the country’s overreliance on foreign medical care.
According to JV representatives, the support underscores their long-term commitment to community health and aligns with broader national priorities.
They highlighted that the collaboration is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed agenda to scale up health sector investments and modernise healthcare facilities across the country.
The National Hospital management expressed gratitude for the donation.
The management noted that continued maintenance of the LINAC radiotherapy machine is vital to ensuring uninterrupted cancer treatment services.
They emphasised that the JV’s support has become a lifeline for many patients, especially those who cannot afford the high cost of oncology care.
The NNPC/Renaissance JV pledged to continue working closely with the Federal Government and key stakeholders to advance cancer care and strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide.
