TDThe Kogi State Government has announced the temporary closure of selected markets and motor parks in parts of Kogi West Senatorial District.

The aim, the government revealed was to support intensified security operations against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal groups.

The directive was issued on Sunday by Commissioner for Information and Communications Kingsley Fanwo.

The directive was made in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and multiple security agencies.

Purpose of the Directive

Authorities say the closures are aimed at:

  • Disrupting criminal networks operating in commercial and transport hubs.
  • Preventing markets and motor parks from being exploited as cover or logistics bases.
  • Ensuring public safety while operations are underway.

Kogi State has faced persistent threats from banditry and terrorist infiltration, particularly in border communities.

The government’s move reflects heightened concern over the use of public spaces by armed groups and underscores its commitment to restoring peace and order.

Official Statement

Commissioner Fanwo urged residents to cooperate fully with the directive.

He stressed that the closures are temporary and necessary for the success of the operations. He assured that normal activities will resume once the security situation stabilizes.

Security agencies are expected to provide updates on the progress of the operations in the coming days.

The government has not specified the duration of the closures but emphasized that the measure is part of broader efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.

More details will be published as details emerge.

Stay tuned…
