TDThe Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed the arrest of one Udeme Sunday Stephen, a 26‑year‑old teacher.

Udeme was arrested in connection with the recent attack on Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, in Edo State.

Details of the Incident

  • Date of attack: February 24, 2026.
  • Location: Residence of Chief John Odigie‑Oyegun, Benin City.
  • Event: Obi and leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were meeting when gunmen opened fire.
  • Arrest: DSS apprehended Udeme Sunday Stephen, who had also posted threatening messages on social media after the attack.

Official Response

Security officials stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the attack and whether additional suspects were involved.

The DSS emphasized its commitment to ensuring accountability and protecting political leaders from targeted violence.

The attack had sparked widespread condemnation across Nigeria’s political spectrum.

Peter Obi, a prominent opposition figure, has continued to call for peace and unity despite the incident.

The arrest marks a significant development in efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.

This remains a developing story, with further updates expected as DSS investigations progress.
