TD The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has appointed Comrade Agu Bryan Diamond as its Acting Spokesperson.
CUPP charged him with the responsibility of articulating the position of the opposition coalition on issues relating to governance and the performance of the ruling administration.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated August 6, 2026, and signed by the Acting National Chairman of the coalition, High Chief Peter Ameh.
According to the letter, the appointment followed the approval of the CUPP Steering Committee at its emergency meeting held on August 2, 2026.
Six-Month Probation
The coalition stated that Agu Bryan Diamond’s appointment would initially be on a probationary basis for six months.
Following the probation period, the Steering Committee would consider its ratification.
It explained that confirmation of the appointment would depend on his satisfactory and exemplary performance during the probationary period.
“Your appointment shall be on a probationary basis for a period of six (6) months, pending final ratification upon the expiration of the probationary period.
Confirmation of your appointment shall be subject to your satisfactory and exemplary discharge of the responsibilities assigned to you,” the letter stated.
Mandate to Speak for the Opposition
The CUPP said the newly appointed Acting Spokesperson’s primary responsibility would be to communicate and defend the positions of opposition political parties.
This will affect issues concerning what it described as the shortcomings and non-performance of the government in power.
The coalition expressed confidence in his ability to effectively represent its views while promoting its objectives.
Warning Against Political Endorsements
The Steering Committee also cautioned the new spokesperson against using the CUPP platform to endorse any political aspirant, candidate or political party without obtaining prior written approval.
It stressed that the coalition was established as a platform for opposition collaboration and not as a vehicle for endorsing individuals seeking elective office.
According to the letter, “CUPP is not, and has never been, a platform for endorsing candidates seeking elective political office.
“Under no circumstances should you use the CUPP platform to endorse any individual, candidate, or political party without the prior written consent and authorization of the Steering Committee.”
Charge to Uphold Integrity
While congratulating Agu Bryan Diamond on his appointment, the coalition reminded him of the challenges associated with opposition politics.
CUPP urged him to discharge his responsibilities with integrity, discipline and unwavering commitment.
“The business of opposition politics is often littered with significant challenges, pressures, and temptations.
“We therefore expect that you will discharge your responsibilities with integrity, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the ideals and objectives of the Coalition,” the letter concluded.
The appointment comes at a time when opposition parties are intensifying efforts to strengthen collaboration.
They seek to provide coordinated responses to national political and governance issues ahead of the country’s evolving political landscape.
