THIS DAWN — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the Accord Party, declaring his intention to contest for a second term on that platform.
Adeleke’s exit from the PDP was first made public through a resignation letter dated November 4, 2025. In the letter addressed to the PDP Ward 2 chairman in Ede North Local Government, the governor cited persistent turmoil within the party’s national leadership as the reason for his departure.
The defection was officially unveiled at a formal event held Tuesday evening at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo.
The gathering was attended by national and state leaders of the Accord Party, government officials and supporters donned in party colours — signalling a full transition of allegiance.
In a statement, Adeleke said he actually joined the Accord Party on November 6, 2025, after “weeks of consultation and deliberations” with stakeholders and opinion leaders across Osun State. He expressed that the Accord Party’s ideology — particularly its emphasis on welfare and citizen-centred governance — aligns with his own administration’s priorities.
The governor added that he hopes the new platform will allow him to complete ongoing projects and extend the delivery of what he described as “good governance and democratic dividends” to the people of Osun.
With the 2026 Osun governorship election looming, Adeleke’s defection marks a significant realignment in state politics — one that could reshape alliances and voter calculations.
As of now, some lawmakers elected under the PDP have indicated they will remain with the party, signalling a possible split in political loyalties within Osun.
