TDA fierce Brazilian football rivalry descended into chaos after 23 players were shown red cards following a massive brawl during a match between Cruzeiro and Atlético Mineiro.

The ensuing fracas forced military police to intervene so as to restore order.

The dramatic incident occurred during the closing moments of the Campeonato Mineiro final at the Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte, overshadowing Cruzeiro’s 1–0 victory.

Late Clash Sparks Full-Scale Fight

The confrontation erupted deep into stoppage time after a collision between Atlético Mineiro goalkeeper Everson and Cruzeiro midfielder Christian.

Reports indicate that Everson reacted aggressively after the challenge, tackling Christian to the ground and shouting at him while he lay injured.

The incident quickly escalated as players from both teams rushed toward the scene.

Within seconds, the confrontation spiraled into a full-scale brawl involving players, substitutes, coaching staff, and security personnel.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes as punches, kicks, and pushing broke out across the pitch.

23 Red Cards Issued

Although the match reached its conclusion, the referee later issued an unprecedented 23 red cards for involvement in the melee.

According to reports, 12 Cruzeiro players were sent off, while 11 Atlético Mineiro players were dismissed

The disciplinary action is considered one of the largest mass expulsions in the history of Brazilian football.

Former Brazil international Hulk, who plays for Atlético Mineiro, was among those sent off following the confrontation.

Police Called to Restore Order

The scale of the fight required the intervention of military police and security personnel, who moved onto the field to separate the players and prevent further violence.

Officials reported that the brawl lasted for some minutes and spread across large areas of the pitch as officials struggled to regain control of the match environment.

The referee reportedly required protection after issuing the large number of expulsions.

Match Result Overshadowed

The match itself had been tightly contested before the violence erupted.

Cruzeiro secured a 1–0 victory thanks to a goal from forward Kaio Jorge, which effectively sealed the title for the club before the late-game chaos unfolded.

What should have been a celebratory moment for Cruzeiro supporters instead ended with scenes of disorder and controversy.

Players React to the Incident

Following the match, several players expressed regret over the violence.

Atlético Mineiro forward Hulk acknowledged the seriousness of the incident.

He stated that players must recognize their mistakes and ensure that football remains respectful and professional.

Football analysts say disciplinary hearings and additional sanctions could follow as authorities review the events.

One of the Most Chaotic Scenes in Brazilian Football

The clash has drawn global attention as one of the most dramatic breakdowns of discipline in recent football history.

Sports commentators say the incident highlights the intensity of Brazil’s regional rivalries.

It also raises questions about match control, refereeing decisions, and player conduct in high-pressure games.

With investigations expected and possible suspensions looming, the fallout from the violent derby could continue to shape Brazilian football headlines in the coming weeks.
