THIS DAWN — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified its political outreach in the South East region ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling a bold strategy to expand its influence in a zone traditionally dominated by opposition parties.
In a high-profile meeting this week, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje Yilwatda met with Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo to discuss the intersection of politics, sports, and business.
The engagement, held in Abuja, was described by party insiders as part of a broader effort to enlist respected figures from the region to bolster the party’s image and grassroots appeal.
“Kanu represents excellence, unity, and youth inspiration — values the APC is keen to promote,” Yilwatda said after the meeting.
While no formal announcement was made regarding Kanu’s political alignment, sources suggest the party is exploring ways to integrate him into its national youth mobilization strategy.
Obi Cubana inducted
In a separate development, popular businessman and nightlife mogul, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, was officially appointed as the South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement.
The Movement is a political support group spearheaded by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The group aims to galvanize youth support for the APC and its candidates in the upcoming elections.
Obi Cubana’s appointment has stirred reactions across social media and political circles, with many viewing it as a strategic move to tap into his vast influence among young entrepreneurs and urban voters.
“I’m honored to serve and contribute to the future of our region,” Cubana said in a brief statement.
The APC’s recent moves reflect a calculated effort to reshape its image in the South East, where it has historically struggled to gain traction.
With the 2027 elections looming, the party appears determined to leave no stone unturned in its quest for national consolidation.
Political analysts say the recruitment of high-profile figures like Kanu and Cubana could signal a turning point in the APC’s regional strategy — one that blends celebrity appeal with grassroots engagement.
