TDThe Anambra State Government has announced the recovery of ten oil wells previously credited to Delta State, marking a significant milestone in the state’s quest to reclaim its rightful resources.
Professor Charles Ofoegbu, Managing Director of the Anambra State Solid Mineral Development Company and Chairman of Anambra State Petroleum Energy Resources Limited, disclosed the development during an interview on ABS Awka.
He explained the Revenue Mobilisation Commission has yet to approve the verification report on the oil wells.
As soon as that is done, he said, Anambra will begin to receive additional revenue from the wells located along its maritime boundary with Delta State.
Plans for Refinery and Revenue Expansion in Anambra
Professor Ofoegbu revealed that the state government is collaborating with foreign investors to establish a modular refinery in Osamala, Ogbaru Local Government Area, which will produce petroleum and diesel for Anambra and neighboring states.
This project, he noted, will generate substantial revenue and strengthen the state’s economic base.
He further stated that Anambra is working tirelessly to recover other oil wells currently being claimed by Imo, Delta, Rivers, and Enugu States due to boundary disputes.
Successful recovery will increase the state’s share of the 13 percent oil derivation fund from the Federal Government.
Anambra Begins Mining and Mineral Development
Beyond oil, the state is also diversifying into solid minerals.
Professor Ofoegbu confirmed that a mining site is being opened at Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Government Area for kaolin processing.
Meanwhile, plans are underway to establish a bentonite processing plant at Achalagu, Nteje, with raw materials sourced from Umuchu and Ufuma in Anambra State.
Bentonite, widely used in the oil industry, is expected to further boost Anambra’s revenue streams.
Impact on Governance
Professor Ofoegbu emphasized that revenue from the oil sector has already contributed immensely to the spectacular performance of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Such revenues enable progress across multiple sectors, including the construction of Solution Fun City.
This recovery of oil wells marks a turning point in the economic journey of Anambra State.
It positions the state as a stronger player in Nigeria’s oil and mineral resource landscape.
