THIS DAWN — A lawmaker from Zamfara State, Hon. Shamsuddeen Basko, has on December 3, 2025, defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic party (PDP).
Speaking about the reasons behind his action, Hon. Basko cited deep internal crises and poor party leadership.
Basko is a member representing Talata-Mafara North at the Zamfara State House of Assembly.
He defected, citing party crises and leadership failures, as confirmed by multiple Nigerian news outlets.

More resignations trail APC
Basko aligns with another lawmaker, Nura Dahiru, from Birnin-Magaji South, who also resigning from APC amid similar grievances.
The development highlights ongoing political shifts in Zamfara, a volatile northern state.
Defections in the state, according to analysts, signal weakening ruling party control ahead of future elections.
In another development, the APC has inaugurated the Screening and Appeal Committees for the Osun State 2025 governorship primary election, scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Osun State governorship on the roll
Barr. Obinna Uzoh is heading the Screening Committee, while Senator Tolu Odeniyi leads the Appeal Committee.
Earlier in the week, Osun State APC governorship aspirants were at the Party’s National Secretariat to submit their nomination forms.
The Party state leadership reaffirmed its commitment to a credible process ahead of the primaries.
The leadership urged all aspirants to play by the rules and maintain decorum.
