TDThe African Democratic Congress (ADC) has firmly dismissed reports suggesting that its National Chairman, David Mark, has resigned, describing the claims as false, misleading, and politically motivated.

In a press statement issued by the Media Office of the National Chairman, the party characterized the reports as “an insidious fabrication”.

The party said it was designed to create confusion and destabilize its leadership structure at a critical political moment.

The ADC emphasized that Senator Mark remains fully in charge and has not, at any point, considered stepping down from his position.

“The assertion that Senator David Mark has stepped down exists only in the warped imagination of those bent on spreading falsehood,” the statement read.

It reinforced the party’s position that no leadership vacuum exists within its ranks.

ADC Responds to Circulating Reports

The denial follows widespread circulation of a controversial report claiming that Mark had agreed to step aside as interim chairman.

This, the report said, was to allow former party leader Ralph Nwosu to oversee the party’s transition ahead of its national convention.

The report further alleged that the move was part of efforts to stabilize internal tensions.

It also claimed the move addressed concerns arising from recent developments involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, the ADC leadership has rejected the narrative in its entirety.

It insisted that it is a calculated attempt by external and internal actors to sow discord within the party.

According to the statement, there is no agreement, formal or informal, for any leadership change involving Senator Mark.

Leadership Stability and Internal Unity

The party reiterated that its leadership remains united, focused, and committed to advancing its political agenda.

It stressed that ongoing speculation about internal divisions is unfounded and does not reflect the reality within the organization.

ADC officials noted that such rumors often emerge during periods of political realignment and heightened activity.

This is particularly so, as parties begin early positioning ahead of major electoral cycles.

They argued that the timing of the reports suggests a deliberate attempt to undermine the party’s growing influence in Nigeria’s opposition landscape.

“The ADC leadership remains resolute in its mission to strengthen democratic values and provide credible leadership to Nigerians,” the statement added.

ADC Warns Against Destabilization Efforts

The party also issued a strong warning against what it described as coordinated attempts to destabilize its structure.

It accused unnamed actors of exploiting misinformation as a tool to weaken opposition cohesion and disrupt democratic competition.

According to the statement, such actions are driven by fear of the ADC’s rising profile and its potential role in shaping political outcomes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party maintained that it would resist any effort aimed at undermining Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.

“The ADC, its leadership, and the majority of Nigerians are unbending in their determination to resist any plot aimed at imposing a one-party system,” the statement said.

Context of Political Tensions

The controversy comes amid ongoing political maneuvering and reported disputes linked to party structures and regulatory scrutiny.

Recent developments involving INEC have added to the complexity of the situation.

Some analysts suggest that opposition parties may face increased institutional challenges as the next election cycle approaches.

Despite these pressures, the ADC insists it remains stable and prepared to navigate both internal and external challenges.

Party insiders maintain that preparations for future electoral contests, including strategic planning and coalition-building, are ongoing without disruption.

ADC Calls for Public Confidence

The ADC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and democratic ideals.

It urged Nigerians to disregard the resignation rumors and remain confident in the party’s leadership.

It emphasized that maintaining public trust is critical at a time when political misinformation can easily spread and influence perceptions.

The party called on supporters and the general public to rely on verified information from official channels.

“The leadership and stability of the ADC remain intact. Nigerians should be assured that the party is focused, determined, and prepared for the task ahead,” the statement concluded.

The development underscores the high-stakes nature of Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Narratives around leadership and legitimacy have continued to shape public discourse ahead of the next general elections.
