TDThe Anambra State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a strong warning against what it described as attempts by certain individuals to destabilize the party through the creation of unauthorized parallel structures.
This was disclosed an official press statement released by the ADC Anambra state chairman, Comrade Patrick Obianyo, on behalf of the State Executive Committee.
The party leadership said it was acting to safeguard the integrity of the ADC and protect the interests of its members across the state.
Condemnation of Parallel Structure
The committee operates under the oversight of the State Chairman—Obianyo.
IT reaffirmed that the current executive remains the only duly recognized authority overseeing party affairs in Anambra State.
It specifically disowned a group reportedly operating under the name “MRMR,” describing it as an illegal formation not recognized by the party’s constitution.
“We strongly warn those attempting to create parallel structures to desist immediately,” the statement read.
It stressed that such actions constitute a direct violation of the ADC Constitution.
The ADC further alleged that some individuals from other political parties are attempting to infiltrate and hijack its structure in Anambra without formally resigning from their former affiliations.
Describing such actors as “political tourists,” the party emphasized that ADC remains committed to discipline and due process.
Obianyo warned that the Anambra ADC leadership would not allow its platform to be compromised for personal ambitions.
Financial Accountability Warning
The State Executive Committee also raised concerns over alleged financial misconduct.
Such misconduct includes reports that certain individuals were collecting funds meant for party activities into private bank accounts.
The party clarified that ADC Anambra maintains an official bank account.
It, therefore, warned that no member or entity is authorized to receive party funds through personal accounts.
It described such practices as fraudulent and subject to disciplinary action.
On the issue of party assets, the committee stated unequivocally that the State Chairman and his executive team are the sole custodians of all ADC properties and materials within Anambra.
It cautioned that:
-
No individual is permitted to obtain membership cards or registers directly from the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja without state-level authorization.
-
Any procurement or distribution of party materials without the express approval of the State Chairman is null and void.
Membership Drive Continues
Despite the internal tensions, the ADC leadership maintained that its membership registration process remains active and accessible online.
The party called on Nigerians who are committed to good governance to join its movement through official channels.
“The ADC Constitution is clear regarding the operations of the party at the state level. We will not stand by while the foundation we have built is undermined,” the statement emphasized.
The committee urged party members and the general public to disregard any directives not issued by the recognized State Executive Committee.
The development underscores growing internal disputes within party structures at the state level, even as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
